Christmas Gathering 2013

Last night was our last gathering of the year.

We had a wonderful turnout with 40 of our 59 members joining us to celebrate Christmas and a wonderful year of Patchwork and Quilting

Once again country hospitality was at it's best with a wonderful selection of goodies to nibble on.

The ladies went to a great effort dress in a festive mood with plenty of Santa hats, lots of red, Christmas baubles and even the odd
Christmas vest!
Karin was rather festive
We had Show and Tell with plenty of wonderful quilts,
Joan completed some wonderful quilts on her trip to New Zealand

This one attracted a lot of attention - she had a lot of fun doing this one

Maryanne is behind her tumbling block quilt top she is hand sewing - great progress Maryanne

Jo is making these for a Breast Cancer fundraiser

Maureen has finished another quilt top

Jude is making wonderful progress on this one, another hand pieced masterpiece

We also had a couple of more quilt tops shown which I have added to the post about Andreas Layer cake class.

We've had a great year, 2014 will bring many more opportunities for our members to learn new techniques during our workshops and the chance to display their wonderful work at the Victorian Quilters Gathering in March and in October at our Quilt In.

Merry Christmas to all and we hope you have a wonderful New Year.

Andrea's Layer Cake Class

Andrea's Quilt

At the last two gatherings we've already seen some results from Andrea's Layer Cake Class.  The ladies had a wonderful day and it's great to see the variety of quilts that come out of classes like this which provide such a quick result.
Jude's finished top - she added an extra border with a charm pack in the same range
Jenny's finished top

Maureen's finished top

At our latest gathering we were shown two more variations of this wonderful quilt

Jude's Machine Quilting Workshop

A group of our members and a couple of non-members recently participated in a workshop with Jude Liebmann during which she taught them techniques and strategies in machine quilting.  This workshop covered techniques from how to put the sandwich together and basting through to hints on how to quilt a large quilt top.  Her class was very much appreciated by all who attended.  They all left with a sample of how to use each technique taught.

Maree likes to challenge us.....

Maree likes a challenge.  Over the years she has amazed us with her attention to detail, her love of intricate blocks and her amazing small quilts.  She took on the Nearly Insane quilt twice, she created two versions of her "Roebuck" quilt - one Big and one Little and has created a variety of projects for our members to take part in.  A couple of years ago Maree decided she would like to do the Dutch Treat Quilt and invited our members to join her. They were given 4 -6 blocks a week over the past two years, we hope to have those quilts on display at our 2015 Quilt Show.

Last year she tested our creative skills with a project in which over 15 members took part, these efforts were on display at our 2012 Quilt In and at our 2013 Quilt Show.  It was very interesting to see the variety of interpretations of her instructions.
Liz Kenny and Sue Cheney's Interpretations
This year Maree has a new project for our members to take on. The Quilt will be called Honour. The quilt has 49 blocks with each block being 6”. She will give 4 blocks per month and plan to start with the first 4 in February. The last blocks will be given in February 2015 so that hopefully those of you that have taken up this project can have the tops done to show at the April 2015 gathering. The committee is also hoping that we can have them completed to hang at the 2015 quilt show.  Maree will lauch this project at tonights gathering.  With this project, completion of Dutch Treat and a new group of members taking on Nearly Insane, we are sure keeping our members busy.

2013 Quilt Show

We've just hosted our Quilt show for 2013!

And what a lovely show it was, regardless of the events that were on all around us we still had quite a few people pass through our doors.
Our visitors were greeted with a warm welcome from our ladies.  We had over a hundred quilts on display ranging from intricate hexie quilts, wonderful reproductions, a variety of jelly roll quilts, needleturn quilts, machine applique quilts, embroidered quilts, sampler quilts and many different star quilts.
When our visitors tired of looking at quilts they could wander through time marvelling at the changing wedding dress styles over the years as our stage display this year was wedding dresses from 1934 - 2012.
Our challenge entries although few in number still managed to draw attention with their interpretation of our theme "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue".
Our ladies in the kitchen once again put on a wonderful spread of goodies as did our trade table ladies !
