A new year and hope

It is with great delight that we have hosted our first 10 - 10 Super Saturday Sit'n'Sew.   A fantastic day where we had lots of space between our tables and each other.

Masks were not an impediment to talking!!!!!  With so much catching up to do with each other and getting to know some visitors, there was a lot of talking done!!  Even better, our visitors became members on the day!  What's better than that?

There was so much variety in the projects people were working on.  All the techniques could be seen; applique, embroidery, string piecing, scrap piecing, amazing hexagons, chain piecing, you name it, somebody was doing it.

In that vein,  while we are being very mindful of changing restrictions, we are being hopeful of getting together again very soon for another day of indulging our craft and friendships.  Members will be updated via e-mail and out facebook page in the event of any changes.

October Gatherings

This month has certainly shown that there is diversity within our group!  Looking through the eye candy below, one can see a small snippet of the wide variety of things people work on....

B has begun foundation piecing many, many Noah's Ark blocks...

D has recently purchased a long arm quilting machine and said "I just decided to have a go!"  WOW!  This is her first practice piece!!

In between times, D is hand-piecing these gorgeous little cranes...

J is making hexagons to surround an embroidered centre.

K has made this quilt using up all of her bits of blue left over pieces.  She has designed this to be a modern quilt.

It was completed using Quilt As You Go quilting which K stitched with her walking foot, thus quilting each block individually.  It's truly stunning.

Oh dear, this picture is sideways - not sure why that happened - but M is making a vase of roses from left over pieces of curtain fabric, which are made in the log cabin style and have some lovely free-motion stitching on them.

The other M has stated a new project with new fabric - ooohhhh ...

S has hand-knitted these dresses to fit Barbie Dolls and they are divine.

The same S has also been working quite diligently for some time now on hexagons.  She says that the assembled part is now wide enough, it needs to grow some more to become long enough.

Our newest member, S, has pulled out a 20 year old cross-stitch project and is keen to keep progressing on it as her grand-daughter has requested it when done.  A beautiful gift for sure.

V has been using english paper piecing for this mini-quilt.  I think it's about 12in square with all of those bits in it...

And to finish off this month, W, is hand appliqueing a block from the quilt "Celebrating Mary Brown".

May Gathering & AGM Night

During May, not only is there our normal monthly gatherings, plus the upcoming Retreat and the 10-10 Sewing Day, we had some very prolific members too.........

Starting with an update on Dear Jane:

J is making Quilted Diamonds, from the book by Linda Franz.  Essentially, it is Dear Jane blocks put into a diamond shape.

The next two photos are updates of blocks by B and W....

S, who joined the group this year brought along her hand pieced Dear Jane which wowed all of us.

Then R was taking it easy with some sashiko...

And, what would a blog post be without hexagons?  Hexagons abound in this group!

Here is Pele Mele by H.  Pele Mele really can be anything you like.   The shear variety we are seeing each month since the class back in March from our members is astonishing.

J was a 'tutor helper' at AQC and she really liked what the tutor was showing with the embellishment of clothing and has re-purposed an old denim jacket to make something fun and modern.

C brought along her three little girls to embroider their faces on.  They are so cute!

AGM
Our AGM was held at the night gathering.  All Committee Office Bearer positions have remained the same with some changes to the General Committee.  Details have been updated and circulated to Members.

May 10-10 Super Saturday

Saturday 4th May saw Kilmore Quilters start their sewing extravaganza month!  Beginning with a 10-10 Super Saturday sewing session and soon to be followed by our regular monthly gatherings and the annual retreat.  As per previous months, the show'n'tell once again lived up to expectations.

Aboriginal prints are often full of amazing patterns and this quilt used a large patterned piece of fabric for the centre, with the same fabric to make 'one block wonder' hexagons for the border applique.

W, completed this quilt top on the day - it is huge!  Stunning with pretty pinks and purples.  Pattern is by Katrina Hadjimichael.

The primary colours of this centre panel by H are for the same quilt pattern as above.  Both versions look fantastic.  The great thing about a few people making the same pattern is the variety of colour choices and how completely different it can look.

Here, the one of the J's is using the Pele Mele pattern from our class back in March and is adding some of her own hand-drawn designs onto the clamshells.  Pele Mele is a great pattern to simply experiment with what you like as there are no rules or limitations to what you can do.

When W completed her purple quilt above, she pulled out her long term hand-sewing project - "A Star A Day" pattern.  After making a star a day, it is assembled into panels before being assembled into a complete top.  If you scroll through back posts on this blog, you can see how it has progressed.  We are all awaiting the final completion of this quilt top with anticipation!

At the March 10-10 Super Saturday, A had brought along her foxes as a large pile of pre-cut pieces with the pattern to assemble them - here they are - ready to go to their new home.  They are so cute and maybe a little bit cheeky.  (Pattern by Elizabeth Hartmann)

To finish off, one of the J's made this super cute puppy for a baby to come.  So cute, we all wanted one!

Who's up for more sewing this month?

April Gatherings

Oh there's so many projects to make!  And even more to want to make...........  April was certainly following hot on the heels of previous months with lots of show'n'tell and progress on many projects...

Starting with English Paper Piecing on La Pascaligia...

And then, W, showed us another of her Brimfield blocks...

H, is working away on this magnificent applique medallion.  There are some very quirky birds on this piece.  Can't wait to see what comes next!

Then there was a parade of elephants.  Hand applique with eyes and tails to be added for a great grandchild to come..
`

And, some very cute printed ones are shown to great advantage in this quilt...

In March, Kilmore Quilters was lucky enough to have Veronique from Wattlebird Designs come and spend a day with us, demonstrating her Pele Mele Quilt.  J has been quite prolific with hers and says that they are very addictive to make...

Hand piecing this month included some lovely delicate hexagons and L, is hand-piecing squares which she says are from the oldest part of her stash.

Shadow Box quilts are a fantastic way to show off big prints and this one from Asian inspired fabrics is no exception

Letting the fabric do the work, there is terrific shading in this ombre quilt.  This J has told us she is working on our challenge of completing 10 UFOs this year and this is one of them.

J's second UFO to finish are these birdhouses.  A very small quilt, with precision detail.  I put the reel of thread on top so that you can get an idea of the tiny scale of the blocks.

We hope that you all had a happy and safe Easter and look forward to seeing many of you soon.
