February Super Saturday

Even though our monthly day and night gatherings were full of show'n'tell, our first Super Saturday 10am - 10pm sewing session of the year was also full of oohhhs and aaahhhs....

Those little appliques finish about 2.5in - they are tiny and so perfectly made. 

The flower and trees are another border of that same quilt.  The quilt is huge with many borders surrounding a central medallion.

One of the A's in our group had come prepared for a day of piecing with everything pre-cut to sit and sew up some very cheeky foxes.

Hand quilting is in progress on these gorgeous petals with their green sashing and purple star cornerstones.

One of the J's also came with her quilt pre-cut and partially assembled blocks so that she too, could sew up a storm.

Not quite enough of each fabric, this quilt is perfect for a horse lover, given she had to "come up with a plan" when her original one didn't quite work out.

To finish off, here is M's mariners compass medallion, started in the class with Shelley Kelley last year.

November Gatherings

What a productive month we've had!  This is a very photo heavy blog post for November, with many, many pieces of show'n'tell.  

First up are these very interesting applique blocks...

A very pretty variation on the double wedding ring block.... 

Applique medallions for some quilt centres.... so gorgeous, can't wait to see what will surround them.

 


Ever so slowly progressing, is our Dear Jane project [working from the book Dear Jane by Brenda Papadakis], which at 4 blocks per month is set to run for another couple of years.  Several of us started the project, but these 3 ladies are very consistent with completing the blocks each  month.  One is doing the diamond version (Quilted Diamonds by Linda Franz) 

And, now for some super cuteness - dollies and their beds and quilts... 

 


Attention to detail really does take projects to a whole new level, such as the embroidery on the sewing cover, the foundation pieced Mariners Compass centre in the same shot and work on the Patchwork of the Crosses piece... 

 

At our last 10-10 Super Saturday Sewing day, one of our members taught others how to line a cane basket with fabric, you have to agree they are really lovely.

 

We also had delicious eye candy with a few complete quilts

The Egyptian Quilt is still progressing, B is slowly hand appliqueing his way around the motifs.

Here are two completed quilt tops, such bright colours, they'll certainly bring a smile...

To finish off, here is someone starting their Rotherfields Greys journey.  Many of our group are making these quilts, which we hope to be able to show off during the 2nd half of 2019.  It is a great exercise when we are all given the same pattern, but each person puts their own colour choice and preferred techniques into the quilt, to see what comes out.

September Gatherings

What a wonderful month we've had - so many very prolific members.  Our Show'n'tell this month is fantastic.  

We start this month with a stunning applique panel, oops, it's sideways, but you can still see how amazing it is.....

B, has returned with his Egyptian Mythology panel, which has had more added to it since he last showed it back in June

C has been working away on another border of her "Rotherfield's Greys" quilt.  First you make lots of little stars which are then appliqued onto background squares.

For something a little different, here is the most delicate tea cup and saucer - certainly one for admiring...

On the other end of the scale, some lovely chunky variegated knitting, sure to keep it's owner lovely and warm.

Sometimes simplicity is the best - look at those lovely even stitches in this sashiko piece.  Ahhhh....

We have two very diverse but oh so pretty quilt tops in progress, first the four patch diamonds, followed by hand-pieced flowers.  The colours these two ladies have chosen are simply gorgeous.

This photo has been blown up quite large so that you can see the embroidered wreath.  Perfect stitching.

No gathering is complete without Hexagons!  It seems they just like to be where-ever we are! :)  It really doesn't matter what fabrics you make them from, they just look good and bring a lovely feeling of nostalgia with them.

We are excited to see what the hexagon medallion below is going to have around it.  

And, not to be out-done, hexagon shapes can also be "tumbling" or "baby" blocks.  Simply take 3 diamond shapes and 3 shades of colour for a wonderful 3-D effect.

Applique within Kilmore Quilters never fails to please.  From the farmyard to a cheeky cocky, we couldn't help but smile when we saw these two quilts...

Our newest member, Ce, is getting a head start on Christmas!  Very cute applique of Santa, reindeer and a penguin!

To finish off, here is the show'n'tell of completed quilts...  Very diverse and all so perfect.

From memory, these circles of oceans is heading O/S to live with the makers grandson so that he has "hugs from Grandma" while living far away, also made by Ce.

The snowball and 9-patch bears and the two colour quilt were both started at the KQ Retreat, back in 

May.  

The Lone Star quilt and the twirling (Windmills of My Mind) have both been made by the same person.  Diversity is the name of the game!
