Blissful Retreat... ahhhh...

We are so lucky to have been able to escape for a few days together, on Retreat in the hills, not too far from home.  I'm sharing some photos of the area and the stunning fungi which was found on our walk, some might say trek, through the fern forest....
The trees are tall, the undergrowth lush and full of ohh..., ahhh... look at that moments.

The late afternoon sun made for intriguing shadows and tree silhouettes, but also a perfect reflection on the pond which we looked out onto from the sewing room.

And, as if the scenery couldn't get any better, these little toadstools showed that fairies really do live at the bottom of the garden!

Inside, we were treated to an huge sewing room, with lots of light and plenty of space to set ourselves up in.  A full table each ensured productive sewing time, while being close enough together for chatting.

Now for the Show'n'Tell - hope you've got a cuppa ready, this is very photo heavy and well worth the look though all the pics.

As you can see, it was a perfect weekend for all of us with a big variety of projects, no cooking and no housework.  Purely delightful. :)

Super Saturday

We came together,
We talked,
We laughed,
We shared.

Only a community of like minded people can understand the level of friendship, caring and support we have for each other.

Quilt projects were worked on, machine problems sorted, tools were shared.

While there are no photos, it was a perfect day with beautiful people.

Errata:  Unfortunately there are no photos for this post.  Yours truly got home and realised that she hadn't snapped a single picture.

March Show'n'Tell

Once again, we were delighted with the stunning work on display at out gatherings.  People really do beautiful things with needle, thread, yarn and fabric.  Here's the show'n'tell.....

C has been taking part in an embroidery course and here is one of her assignment pieces

Putting together a few scraps.... 4 patch diamonds are joined to make this beauty.

Sewing together lots of curves can be tricky, but the interplay between pieces and links makes this a wonderful vibrant quilt.  The detail shot shows the contrast of straight line quilting.

For something a little different, below the cat picture was from a photo and is then appliqued onto a background and thread painted....

R is working away on her Baltimore, red and green applique

C was doing something called "broomstick crochet", but she forgot the stick and couldn't do any - we admired it anyway!

When yo make a "Stack'n'Whack" quilt, but find it needs calming down, you add a solid border of purple and applique yellow flowers on top!

Trip around the world in English Paper Piecing.

Hand piecing.  Both of these ladies are using up some of their older fabrics to great effect.

More English Paper Piecing with some colourful hexagons and a "Patchwork of the Crosses" block.

And, to finish up,  progress on a "Rotherfield's Grey".  The hexagons make one of the borders and the circular design will go into the centre.  Simply stunning in the two colours of red and beige.

That's all for this month, we look forward to seeing you at one of our April Gatherings, or if you can't make it, stop by our Facebook page or leave a comment on this blog to say "Hi" :)

Very Snuggly Quilt Making Day

It's always going to be a good day when like minded people come together to sew for a good cause and this Saturday was no exception.

Very Snuggly Quilts, supported by Victorian Quilters Inc, provides quilts to the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne to children who have long term or terminal illness.  As hospitals are such drab places, these quilts are made with love, to give some colour and life to the room, as well as something of the child's own to cuddle and have with them at all times.

Hearts to be appliqued

Lots of concentration ensured that lots of quilts were being made...

Friendship star blocks are laid out ready for assembly and then neatly stacked when done...

These are simple square in a square blocks, which make up into great 'eye-spy' quilts...

The days statistics rounded out to:
5 quilts completed
21 Friendship Star blocks assembled
4 centres
201 Square in a square blocks assembled
4 quilts quilted
1 pack of 15 shapes appliqued.

That's not bad going considering there were 19 people in attendance on the day
10 Kilmore members
5 from Heathcote Quilters,
2 from Lancefield Quilters
and Marie Lee with her friend from Rosebud.

Our heartfelt thanks goes out to all who support those in need.  Very Snuggly Quilts is a program which is continually supported by Kilmore Quilters - click here:
