Andrea's Layer Cake Class

Andrea's Quilt

At the last two gatherings we've already seen some results from Andrea's Layer Cake Class.  The ladies had a wonderful day and it's great to see the variety of quilts that come out of classes like this which provide such a quick result.
Jude's finished top - she added an extra border with a charm pack in the same range
Jenny's finished top

Maureen's finished top

At our latest gathering we were shown two more variations of this wonderful quilt

Jude's Machine Quilting Workshop

A group of our members and a couple of non-members recently participated in a workshop with Jude Liebmann during which she taught them techniques and strategies in machine quilting.  This workshop covered techniques from how to put the sandwich together and basting through to hints on how to quilt a large quilt top.  Her class was very much appreciated by all who attended.  They all left with a sample of how to use each technique taught.

Maree likes to challenge us.....

Maree likes a challenge.  Over the years she has amazed us with her attention to detail, her love of intricate blocks and her amazing small quilts.  She took on the Nearly Insane quilt twice, she created two versions of her "Roebuck" quilt - one Big and one Little and has created a variety of projects for our members to take part in.  A couple of years ago Maree decided she would like to do the Dutch Treat Quilt and invited our members to join her. They were given 4 -6 blocks a week over the past two years, we hope to have those quilts on display at our 2015 Quilt Show.

Last year she tested our creative skills with a project in which over 15 members took part, these efforts were on display at our 2012 Quilt In and at our 2013 Quilt Show.  It was very interesting to see the variety of interpretations of her instructions.
Liz Kenny and Sue Cheney's Interpretations
This year Maree has a new project for our members to take on. The Quilt will be called Honour. The quilt has 49 blocks with each block being 6”. She will give 4 blocks per month and plan to start with the first 4 in February. The last blocks will be given in February 2015 so that hopefully those of you that have taken up this project can have the tops done to show at the April 2015 gathering. The committee is also hoping that we can have them completed to hang at the 2015 quilt show.  Maree will lauch this project at tonights gathering.  With this project, completion of Dutch Treat and a new group of members taking on Nearly Insane, we are sure keeping our members busy.
