April Gatherings

Oh there's so many projects to make!  And even more to want to make...........  April was certainly following hot on the heels of previous months with lots of show'n'tell and progress on many projects...

Starting with English Paper Piecing on La Pascaligia...

And then, W, showed us another of her Brimfield blocks...

H, is working away on this magnificent applique medallion.  There are some very quirky birds on this piece.  Can't wait to see what comes next!

Then there was a parade of elephants.  Hand applique with eyes and tails to be added for a great grandchild to come..
`

And, some very cute printed ones are shown to great advantage in this quilt...

In March, Kilmore Quilters was lucky enough to have Veronique from Wattlebird Designs come and spend a day with us, demonstrating her Pele Mele Quilt.  J has been quite prolific with hers and says that they are very addictive to make...

Hand piecing this month included some lovely delicate hexagons and L, is hand-piecing squares which she says are from the oldest part of her stash.

Shadow Box quilts are a fantastic way to show off big prints and this one from Asian inspired fabrics is no exception

Letting the fabric do the work, there is terrific shading in this ombre quilt.  This J has told us she is working on our challenge of completing 10 UFOs this year and this is one of them.

J's second UFO to finish are these birdhouses.  A very small quilt, with precision detail.  I put the reel of thread on top so that you can get an idea of the tiny scale of the blocks.

We hope that you all had a happy and safe Easter and look forward to seeing many of you soon.

October Gatherings

October was certainly a busy month, no wonder it has come and gone so quickly!

Apart from our Quilt In we were profiled in a booklet all about Kilmore.  A number of community groups were chosen to host the local MP, be interviewed by her and then have some photos taken.  It was on the 6th Oct, that a few of us went to the launch of this booklet.  We had a lovely morning tea, watched a short presentation and enjoyed each other's company as well as that of the other community groups.

The article in this book is a good representation of what we are about.  It is indeed an honour to be part of the fabric of Kilmore.

More information about  Spotlight on Kilmore can be found here.

The very stormy weather certainly put a huge damper on our night gathering, but the day gathering was well attended and once again, the Show'n'Tell was wonderful.

English Paper Piecing and Fussy Cutting seem to be the "flavour of the month" at the moment, as the pics below will show.....

W and S were both showing us how beautiful hand applique and hand embroidery can be.
Scrappy Quilting, ie:  using your scraps in a controlled manner, with a common element in each block can make for some stunning quilts.  P is making stars by hand and K was trimming up some blocks for another charity quilt.

Then, S was using up her scraps for her hexagon quilt.  You may remember a couple of months ago when we posted a much smaller hexagon piece with a photo of the box of prepared hexies - the quilt top is growing while the box is emptying!

And, on the right, J is working on the embroidered piece.  Such perfect, even stitches.

After such a busy October, we hope to see many of you at our November Gatherings and at the 10-10 Super Saturday Sew-In on Sat 17th Nov.

June Gatherings

To start this month's show'n'tell, we have the beginnings of a butterfly stitchery and some Dear Jane blocks.

The piece below is being made by our male member - B - he is putting together the most amazing applique, full of Egyptian Mythology.  His knowledge of history is quite something.

English Paper Piecing - is quite addictive!  Also, so much choice these days with many types of papers and templates available to choose from.  Although, one cannot deny the attraction of a simple hexagon......  Can you see the box of prepared hexagons just under the table?  Oh wow.........

Or the alternating shapes which either begin with a hexagon or finish up as a hexagon shape.....

And we mustn't forget "Patchwork of the Crosses" or simple stars....

Or a "Trip Around the World".

Then we moved onto hand-piecing.  Simply gorgeous

And knitting with self-patterning yarn...  Those socks and that beanie are going to be well loved.  We are eagerly awaiting the show'n'tell of the finished items.

Then we finish off with a wonderful display of machine pieced items.  Starting with a "jelly roll race" quilt.  Followed by the awesome traffic quilt.

Scrappy Stars - the back is as gorgeous as the front.

And some more scrappy stars with alternating 'wonky' courthouse steps blocks.  Two different settings using the same blocks to create very diverse looking quilts.

During 2017 we had a fun sewing day where we all made the "Scrappy Trips" Pattern by Bonnie Hunter.  J has finished hers, completed with a pieced section on the back.

And to finish off, a simple block, made in many sizes to create a glorious riot of colour and fun!

Thank you for stopping by our blog.  We love sharing what we do! :)
